Recently a woman I sort of know long time acquaintance I like her and don’t know her well she recently said this sentence: Would you mind if I told you the truth about your poems? I couldn’t wait to hear what she said which was this: You’re a non-linear thinker
You are a brave woman, open to comments. Non-linear? Who said poems have to go in a straight line?
There is a book titled…”What you Think of Me is None of my Business”. As a poet you generously open the door to hear what others think. May your heart continue to be generous, even when in pain.
what can you possibly reply when someone says something like this? i probably would be stunned into silence OR i would be snarky and ask her if she cared to elaborate on this perception OR i would say that i'd love to hear more of her thoughts but that I have diarrhea and regrettably must rush off to find a bathroom.
I have no problem understanding you or your poetry. I am a bit weird, but I still "get" you. I had a funny thing happen last night when I tried lightening the mood at a meeting and only one person understood that I was trying to be humorous. They took my words at face value and were horrified instead of amused.
This made me laugh out loud Ester. Sorry, perhaps it’s not funny to you at all. And,perhaps I’m a linear listener/reader because I totally get your poems. And the thing is that I often don’t get a lot of poetry. I feel like many poems just go over my head or something. Your work is most always very relatable to me. Thanks.
People need to tell us the darnedest things.

…and now you get to decide
If you’d rather get to know her better
Or not…

She sounds like a lot of fun.
I still marvel at Billy Collins writing - there are very few genres which see the non-linear as a high point :)

Those aren't bad things in most cases: being nonlinear and not understanding your poems. Says more about her than your poetry.
I suspect it was envy, Esther. Anyone can be linear. You often take the road less traveled. And, I think, that is cool.

She made me laugh too xx
I would say that is exactly the opposite of how I see your poems. Interesting.
