i like writing prompts. many years ago when i was just starting to write more seriously, i went to a class in a nearby town (i was living in MA at the time). the leader gave the word "green." i wrote about parsley & the neighbors next door when i lived in the east village (we shared a tenement bathroom) who invited me & my husband to dinner. they made a salad consisting only of parsley. a green salad in the minimalist sense. i was fascinated by this anomaly & fascinated that even though they were two women in love, they had extremely loud & raucous arguments which we could hear through the bathroom. the people in the writing gathering in MA just stared at me in total silence after it was my turn to read. but i still like writing prompts. thank you, Esther, for this one.
What I needed was to read it twice. The first time, no understanding....the second, complete clarity. What I needed was both patience and persistence. So did they, I think.
I love YOUR Writing Prompts! (Speaking with authority from my glorious experience as a recent participant in one of your book-launch/workshops.) Warning to future, cranky-lazy Prompt-Protesters! For you snarks, your prompt should be "Write A Prompt."
A story: Friday night at 7:00 Mark and I are having our Shabbat dinner. Mark says, let’s watch a Scorsese film at 9:45, Rotten Tomatoes gave it 87 and 89. I say, yes, I’d like that. At around 8 Mark picks up a package from the doorman, and it’s Esther's book (s). I started reading and couldn’t put it down. It’s delightful. I love it. I told Mark, no movie for me to night.
I like writing prompts. They send my thoughts in new directions.

Thank you for this story in the middle of this impossible time much love
Think I might prefer WHAT YOU DONT NEED TO KNOW, though I haven't tried it yet.
Maybe WHAT DO YOU NEED is too direct, requires too much candor. A prompt like GREEN slips in sideways.
I’ll try green
Your STEVE was so good too!
