Yesterday I got a bunch of handwritten letters. I love them no matter what they say (!). One was from Cheryl Clarke with her beautiful handwriting. She apologized for her paper which was fine. The others were written to a broadside I co-edit called
Israel I have files and files of handwritten and also typed letters, another lost art, since it involved putting a piece of paper into an envelope and adding a stamp! And do you remember aerograms? And postcards? I'm sure I have some from you as well when we were working on what became "After Lebanon: The Israeli-Palestinian Connection." On the other hand, I have a newly discovered cousin who sends me orally recorded messages (they must have a name), because she has problems typing email messages.
Oh please please Esther write me a letter. It may not arrive for some years given the state of our postal service but it would be wonderful to receive a letter from you. I promise to write back! Gillian Barlow 19 Crescent Street, Rozelle 2039 NSW Australia
I also enjoy writing and sending hand written letters. The person who appreciates them the most is my Aunt Daisy Quintilla, age 96. She always writes me in her beautiful hand. However, I am sad that when I write to my grandchildren, I must PRINT the letters. Why? They are no longer taught script-writing in school. They go from block printing straight to the computer! I'm happy to write to your Aunt if you send me her address. And you of course.
