The hipsterdom Brooklyn you visited sounds very different from the lower to middle class liberal/left Jewish Brooklyn that I grew up in. With doctors that belonged to HIP, the Brooklyn Dodgers, the Brooklyn Eagle (yes Virginia, there was such a paper) and corner candy stores with eggnog, root beer and mint-chocolate chip as the most exotic ice cream around. I don't even remember any restaurants in the neighborhood(s). For that we had to go to Manhattan.
