Whatever
two things today
Brooklyn today home of
hipsterdom and irony
beautiful blocks on a beautiful
day not much like my own
small world of people my age
buying Zabars whitefish and asking
one another for names of good doctors.
Best thing about the restaurant
where we met our friends
(food ok enough) was the sign on
the restroom door: WHATEVER.
Zoom session with my friend’s friend
a handwriting psychic who said two
unusual things: I was not especially
a people person (she was wrong) and
I had a relationship once years ago
that did not go well and in a funny way
I haven’t recovered. I think she’s wrong
there too although I’m sure I’ve had
relationships that didn’t go well but I’m
also sure I’ve recovered. I liked her well
enough but she wasn’t the psychic for me.

Not So Psychic?
The hipsterdom Brooklyn you visited sounds very different from the lower to middle class liberal/left Jewish Brooklyn that I grew up in. With doctors that belonged to HIP, the Brooklyn Dodgers, the Brooklyn Eagle (yes Virginia, there was such a paper) and corner candy stores with eggnog, root beer and mint-chocolate chip as the most exotic ice cream around. I don't even remember any restaurants in the neighborhood(s). For that we had to go to Manhattan.
