I don’t know how to write about war to write about Israel, today in the middle of an enormous divide a civil war horrible time Israel a country I sometimes think of as my first husband first country I truly loved when I was young I wanted to live in a place
I'm so touched by how you hold out the promise of a beautiful life that could be if only, if only. I was in tears this morning to see the Aljazeera news banner on my ipad. How can civilized educated people continue to do this I lamented.
Esther, This poem of yours has really touched my heart. I feel like maybe I can wake up to find that this war and the one in Ukraine were a nightmare I remember July 4 1975 when we heard about Entebe Although Ive always thought of myself as a peacenik, I cheered for the bravery shown that day. I want to cry for the people of Gaza on both sides and I want to beg for peace while banging the drums of war and the clarion call.
Beautifully put. Only last Saturday I was at a huge blocks-long, peaceful woman-led Democracy rally in Jerusalem. Mostly or all white-skinned folks with more women and children than I saw during the rest of my trip. What can they do and where are they now?
There was an annual international street fair on the day I left. Jerusalem was a quiet city when I was there. The local Haaretz newspaper with NYTIMES excerpts said the Israeli businessman did not like Trump twisting his truths.
Last night’s PBS News called Trump “deranged”. In another story, Nobel laureate Maria Ressa said 72% of the world is under authoritarian rule in 2023!

Heartbreaking, and you have made the unthinkable into something beautiful.
So beautiful
So sad
Keep going Esther💜. Judy
Love the poem in so many ways - how come the majority never rules?
How can we not all weep today?
yes yes yes
Yes, like a first lover.
And now what?
that's the question

She’s a great young painter in Jerusalem.

Ok I’ll read what ever you write x
Every time I read this I like it more.
Every time I get a news bulletin
I read this and like it more and cry.
What a beautiful Poem about a terrible topic. Yes, like your first husband. You never stop loving, you never divorce but then again you do.
And it's 1, 2, 3, what are we fightin' for?
