(I need five reviews!)
I loved this letter in the TIMES
To the Editor: I read the article on Alicia Keys with great interest and a little dismay. I was her piano teacher from first grade until she graduated from high school. We started adding jazz (original transcripts of Ellington, Waller, Gershwin, McPartland) to her classical repertory, as I frequently do with my teenage students
because I believe great music knows no one style. Therefore the statement "at 14, when her classical teacher said he had nothing left to teach her, she began studying jazz" struck me
as both untrue and insulting. I am, furthermore, a "she."
MARGARET PINE
How unfortunate. I'm glad her teacher set the record straight and hope the misinformation wasn't the artist's fault: how much more painful it would be if that were so.
Love Honor but can’t see where to review!
