I have heard from doctors that they sometimes wait a year to be paid by insurance companies.perhaps Medicare is the same, or worse. I wouldn't wish that on anyone. Nothing short of a total overhaul seems necessary, yet incredibly unlikely. I don't know.
You could tell your doctor I'm disappointed in him. Almost all doctors in my area are fine with Medicare. When the statement comes the doctors all seem to be paid. Ask him whether he'd prefer to treat needy old people for free if they can't afford him, or should they just forego care. It's a weird right wing meme to say the system is broken. It's not ideal, but it's not broken.
Our doctor stopped taking Medicare as well. We cannot get an appointment with a doctor who takes it. Impossible. We are staying with our doctor for a while.

My dentist won't participate either.; the paperwork is unmanageable for his solo practice. I pay him because he takes good care of my face.
My other doctors participate, and I am so grateful.
