"Maestro" hasn't come here yet, but last night I went to the opening of the annual (since 2010) Solidarity Human Rights Film Festival at the Tel Aviv Cinematheque, which my neighbor/friend and initiator of the festival decided should be held, despite, and perhaps because of the war. The festival opened with the showing of a powerful short film, "Faith", made by a young student filmmaker Yahav Viener, who was murdered at Kibbutz Kfar Aza on October 7th. The main feature was the very powerful Brazilian "Levante" (Power Alley) film, about a young volleyball player struggling for the right to an abortion against extremist conservative elements. Very worth seeing. And since it's Christmas Day, I recently saw for the first time the very quirky Orson Well's "Mr. Arkadian", Two of his bad guy henchmen don't seem to know English very well, and one of them says "Christmas Merry", quickly corrected by the other guy. So a "Christmas Merry" to everyone.
