This absolutely breaks my heart.

i had lunch with an older friend, a leftist attorney, the day the news hit that kathy was arrested. my friend knew leonard, kathy’s father, well; they were contemporaries politically, socially, and in age. kathy was 4 years older than me and i felt a kinship with her ever since that lunch because of the family stories that i listened to and because of the image i formed in my mind of the close and loving Boudin family. i followed her in the news for years, kept track of the ups and downs of her prison life, and admired the action she took in helping other incarcerated women. may she rest in peace.

Dear Susan, The Boudins were my chosen family. I was lucky enough to meet them during the Pentagon Papers trial and we all spent many years together. A really remarkable family, unlike any I've ever met. All funny and talented and large in their visions, and the way they led their lives.

Beautiful. And the Columbia piece is light years better than the NYT. Thanks for posting.
