Love your sense of humor Esther. Watched it on the computer. Spectacular. Happy crowds made me happy about happiness.

Let's connect with our world between eclipses

I experienced one eclipse from beginning to end. It was spectacular, especially the darks barking in the public square and the birds flying in circles. For this one, I'm planning to catch the minutes of totality from a neighbor's rooftop - thank you Tom! My gazing upward attention span, as well as my neck, aren't what they used to be.

Esther. You asked if you could come to the book club I facilitate at Penn South Senior Center. I’d love for you to come. The volunteers who led the book club before me chose books to read and then lead discussions more in the model of a class. When I took over I changed things a bit. The book club now belongs to the people who come. From time to time I remind them that we need to chose the next three books and people bring suggestions for books. Then we discuss the suggestions and vote on the books for the next three books. We then read and talk about the books one per month I usually come prepared with a question or two to start the discussion after that I just try to keep people on topic. There are a few who will take a tangent and run with it. There is also a problem lately because a few members complain they have poor hearing and can’t hear when people don’t speak up or when there is cross talk. I’m trying to find a way to deal with that, but as I’m not an audiologist I don’t think I can do much about it. I’m just trying to encourage people to talk one at a time. I’ve been thinking of it as the people’s book club. We meet next on the 25th. I’ll ask about inviting you. Call me some time if you want a more concrete answer. I’d love to have you come. See you on Wednesday.

Arrived home from and uncomfortable outpatient surgery at 2:00pm. The eclipse began by 2:40. and proceeded to TOTAL at 3:08pm. Unobstructed view from our deck, seated in a deck chair with my super duper Captain Video eclipse glasses. Amazing…. At total eclipse, the day turned to night, temperature fell by 9 degrees F in 10 minutes, dogs barked, landscape lighting turned on, sounds of people cheering, and many fireworks over the lake. Never experienced this before. Out of TOTAL darkness, there suddenly appeared an eerie halo around the sun. Very cool.

we are packing for a flight to Seattlethis afternoon for a gathering of my son, his wife, and my grandsons and of james' son, his wife, and their daughter -- first family get-together of the whole clan since James and i got married in 2012. i am a nervous flyer normally but today i am going all out: obsessing on the possibility of the ellipsis sucking the airplane into eternity. i am wearing greek worry beads, and earrings my son gave me. i hope that's enough to make the gods think twice about messing with me.
