For the first time
in years we ate dinner
at Chez Josephine before
theater last night.
Bread and Roses
was down the street
and for many years
we were regulars there.
Jean-Claude Baker was
one of the adopted children
of Josephine Baker,
heroine of mine for her talent
for her activism
for her 12 adopted children
from around the world.
Jean-Claude became
a restaurant friend.
He was
French beautiful
French charming.
When he committed
suicide a while ago
it was shocking to
many of us.
We found out
he’d given his
restaurant to his
long-time dishwasher.
Last night
Chez Josephine was
as perfect as always
although we missed Jean-Claude.
PS:
(I ate calves liver.
I’d order it again.)
Calves' liver is the one food I hate. I try it every ten years to make sure!
Love Chez Josephine! Thank you for the history. Yay for the Liver!!
