Last night still on this couch
we watched A Hero by the great
Iranian filmmaker Askhar Farhadi
and even though we were still
sitting here still watching life
from this same couch
we saw this wonderful movie
about what is true and who
we call a hero and today even though
it’s too cold for much
we will finally go for a ride in the car
our first in three months
and sit somewhere else besides this couch
and pretend the pandemic is over.
It is a remarkable film, yes about shades of truth but also love and about how little room for error there is to navigate a life of poverty, how unforgiving the bureaucracy is for those who stumble. We watched it the night before you and it was also certainly an extended trip to another land outside our living room. So glad you gave it a shout out.
I also loved this film for all the reasons you and Phil have mentioned here. And last night we saw Mujeres Paralelas of Almodovar. His wonderful outrageous stories with layers of meanings--and he's not afraid to tell a story cohesively and to be obvious in his conclusions. A master. And I didn't think I was going to like it based on the talky coming attractions short with
(the Motherland) Spain's Spanish cadences that sometimes annoy me.
