Even though some people say
we shouldn’t have just a month
for anything (WOMEN!)
I celebrate. A friend
asked why I don’t write a poem
about IRIS APFEL who just died.
I saw her at the opening of her
wardrobe show at the MET
and felt better about aging
because of her purple suede boots.
She never lost her thing.
But when I read
she voted for You Know Who
I liked her a little less.
Even so she was amazing.
I’ve always been
a Roni Gilbert fan.
We didn’t have to worry
about her voting.
