Who are we? What are roots? Where are they?
Part One:
Talking to my friend Fran this morning. She went to Germany, to find her mother’s Jewish roots. Fran did not know she was Jewish for years. But she knows it now. I told her about seeing Ahava, what her roots might be. Ahava is the biological child of our adopted child and her mixed race Capetown mother. All her roots are wide. Who she is will one day be revealed. Fran met someone who knew her relatives. I don’t know much about the relatives in my past. And then there’s now. I would like to believe that we, those of us who want to be, are all relatives. Maybe we actually are.
(It's tempting here to add the words It's Relative. I will, and I won't.)
