What Would You Take
I watch old people look around their houses and ponder what to take, and I watch how every object becomes a container, a synthesis and an entire lifetime becomes a reservoir of memories. “And that should be left behind?” I mean we all get shaped when cleaning a drawer. FROM BARBARA MYERHOFF STORIES AS EQUIPMENT FOR LIVING
I am opposite of a minimalist, knowing
maximalist is not a popular term. We are, according
to best selling books, better off paring down. I have always
pared up, don't know how many pairs of shoes I own
though I admire my friends who can
say Six Black Pairs Including Sneakers. When I think about
what I'd take if I were leaving this place I've lived in forever,
moving to Essaouira or Patmos or maybe Carricou or Cyprus
what I'd take would be pens and earrings and enough notebooks
to write down everything I didn't take and I'm sure I'd start
maximalizing, again.
