The main thing is this . . .when you get up in the morning you must take your heart in your two hands. You must do this every morning. Grace Paley
What I have to give to you
is only this: a story or two or three.
My old neighbor Dolly was
a manicurist at the Waldorf Astoria
a million years ago where she fell in love
with a man whose nails she filed
and he brought her the most beautiful
chocolate cake she ever saw.
And they ate it. My friend Delores
on her eightieth birthday danced
with a man she never saw before
at an Irish bar down the road and Len
the homeless man on the corner who said
about the turkey and cheese sandwich
he requested and I found (turkey and cheese
not the usual combination but Len
does not like ham and he made it clear
that was not for religious reasons)
Len said two weeks after he ate his sandwich
I wanted to make sure you knew
the sandwich wasn’t bad.
Always a happy moment when I take time to read your words.
Wonderful!
