Hot and we
are trying an experiment:
not inviting anyone
over this week. (I’ll
let you know how it goes.
A test for me but I am
trying. And I can still
go out of course. )
Lunch at Angel’s in East Durham
with Matt publisher of
The Mountain Eagle. John
from an old writing class
was at the next table. A house
painter from the Bronx, he told us
the last book he read
was in my class at the Cairo Public Library
five years ago. By Alexander McCall Smith.
He liked it and is almost ready
for Book Number Two. Meanwhile Matt,
who was the mayor of Middleburgh
at the age of 25 for two terms (he’s
an independent: father Jewish and Italian
mother from Greece) said that his college
roommate Tim (a Democrat) is the Middleburgh
mayor now. I’d like to write a piece
about young mayors (not just
because of Mamdani.) The youngest
mayor in the state was 21 said Matt.
He was a disaster. If you do I’m available
for interviews. For as long as you like.
Maybe after this week, I’ll
invite him over here.
I think you don't have to invite others over, even ever again! Whenever you just move some feet away from your last spot — new folks gravitate to you, a people magnet. Then the poem of the day. And vicariously our world expands.
