Peter made a reservation at a place
we’ve never been on the ocean
in New Jersey. He hasn’t driven
since his new hip three months ago.
We were both happy to be in the car
and yesterday, riding around in a small
town nearby we passed a kosher grocery store
called Freddy’s in Oakhurst
exactly like a grocery store
I loved years ago in Qiryat Shmoneh.
The big sign out front said:
You Want Kosher Sushi. We Have It.
Inside were many of the same
foods from years ago: prune butter,
date syrup, chocolate halavah. I bought
everything again and at the cash register
was a box: Rabbi’s Favorite Sriracha Kosher Chips.
I’ll take these too I said.
They’re new the cashier said. No price.
You’ll have to come back.
We will.
I was riding my bike on the jersey boardwalk today. Thought about you, as always when I passed the Majestic.
Love this story and that Peter's feeling strong and adventurous again. Your food descriptions got me hungry!!
