Yesterday was too hot for poems
at the Cairo Library. Five of the writers
sent emails saying They Couldn’t Come
but I went to the library just in case.
Waited 20 minutes then Lucy affirmed
it was Too Hot for Poems so I
told Lucy we’d go
to Barnwood Barbecue instead.
At Barnwood two of the library poets
walked into the restaurant
to write their poems.
Lucy had sent them
there to me. We sat in a booth
at the bar and Tony a real
poet from Ireland who owns
a poetic hardware store
in downtown Cairo New York
Tony wrote that he lost customers
because they thought he
voted for Hillary and
he lost customers
who thought he voted for Trump.
( Tony doesn’t vote.)
Then Jean wrote that she
lived in Long Island for fifty
years and her neighbors
stopped talking to her
and her family because of
who they voted for so she
moved to upstate New York.
I voted for you know who
said Jean.

I had to wait for the last part of the first part to find out whether it was too hot in Cairo, Egypt!
The world needs more poetic hardware stores!
