Last week at the New York Society Library
the librarian mentioned that 27 people were waiting on the list
for The Lincoln Highway by Amor Towles.
I have never read Amor Towles but want to now
so when I came upstate I went to the Cairo Public Library
where head librarian Debra Kamecke was reading
The Lincoln Highway and when I mentioned
I wanted the book
to my friend Elizabeth next door she said
I just finished. Here it is.
A few years ago my friend Barbara said
you have to read Louise Penny and that very day
at Price Chopper in Catskill the butcher
said I know you like books and a woman left
this on my counter a few days ago and she
never came back. You can have it he said.
Louise Penny. I gave the butcher my number
in case the book’s owner returned and she never did.
