Those of us who considered The People's Song Book to be our progressive folk song bible all knew Ewan McCall, Peggy Seeger's husband, had written "The First Time I Ever Saw Your Face", and we also used to sing it with our guitars. It was a pleasant shock when Roberta Flack suddenly emerged with her extremely slow version of the song and bought it into the mainstream. Just like when "3 Dog Night" performed "Black and White", another song that we all knew and sang from The People's Song Book.
