Every year I debate whether or not
to make resolutions
knowing I probably
won’t do what I carefully
write down
in a well-chosen notebook
this year I would write
using my new yellow Lamy fountain pen
and although I’m good
at writing words down
still I probably won’t
meditate a lot
read three books a week
go to the Society Library
on Tuesdays and Thursdays
to write in my well-chosen notebook
give away clothing I love
that I haven’t worn in a while
stop buying earrings
learn a new language
I probably won’t give up
eating ice cream on a regular basis
chocolate either
every night I have a piece of chocolate
or two so this year
although I do have a new orange notebook
for exactly this person
and the aforementioned pen
instead of resolutions
maybe I’ll write a poem.
Love that you wrote resolutions and it's your business whether you want to keep them or not. I think you should be free to follow your bliss, whatever that may be. And I look forward to your new poem.
Esther, I hope you do write a poem. If you write a resolution, it can be broken. Your poems, however, are indestructible
