Are Poets the Same as Everyone Else?
At last night's poetry reading
Jewish Currents festival winners fifteen
poets read their poems.
They drank of wine (more red than white
only one rose) ate cheese cubes (cheese cubes
still two of my favorite words together. Maria
said Cheese Cubes many years ago. I wrote it down.)
watermelon before the other fruit
some red grapes were left the green were
gone poets ate Triscuits
not Carr's Water crackers some talked to each other
some did not a few wore different shades of blue
some listened carefully and some
looked around the room, distracted
three of the fifteen walked over
to say goodbye.
