After my first In Person Class at the Cairo Public Library
in almost two years (Reba has two suitors: one is 91 but
he has energy and is Not Out of the Running) we were all
happy to be together at last) we went to a newish
restaurant on Water Street in Catskill called Piccolo.
Sky Summer Night where everything becomes
red sky and blue and even if you’ve never taken a picture in your life
you want to take a picture. Catskill is changing but
not too much not Hudson and Piccolo
once a very good small Sardinian restaurant
run by a Staten Island barber.
now has a Mexican owner from Puebla. He makes
delicious clams oreganato and fragrant garlic rolls.
No Mexican food is on his menu. “My mother,”
he said, “made mole from scratch. Took her hours.
I just open a can.”
“I just open a can”. Could be a life philosophy...
