A new study found
that out of every place
in the entire world,
a New York accent was found
to be the least attractive of them all.
The global accent battle,
published by Highland Titles,
surveyed 1,000 Americans on their
opinions on accents around the world.
New York accents have always
been my favorite. I saved Laura’s
father Bernie’s message on my answering
machine for many years - not just
his accent but his words, always
all caps: ESTA YOU COULD
MAKE SOME REAL MONEY SELLING
TELEPHONE SYSTEMS. YOU
WOULDN’T BE BROKE!!!!!
And I like this movie too.
Good for today.
I was sent to speech class during my elementary school years when my family moved to a town in Putnam County NY. I was a quiet kid, and had been taught never to “talk back “or argue with adults. I hated the way they were trying to teach me to speak. I was convincer they were “hill Billies” and that some of their pronouncements were just wrong and stupid. I had a strong identification as a “Brooklyn girl. “. Over the years I lost some of my accent in everyday speech, but was surprised in college to realize that whenever I experienced strong emotions, my Brooklyn would just come back out. My friends thought it was funny and some thought it was put on. It was real and I had no control over it at times. Oh well!
I love the many accents in New York, but also the people who come with them.
It is what it is.
