JCC usually has free classes
on New Year’s Day but this year
online and tomorrow so today
we recount to one another
what we did on our couches last night
because the pandemic persists
because we are still at home
and last night we
watched The Lost Girl
on Netflix Maggie Gyllendahl’s movie
and Olivia Coleman
star of the pandemic (Landscapers!!!)
star of the universe
we watch her in everything
in this disturbing
Elena Ferrante story of women and sex
and motherhood and even Greece
(Ed Harris!!! Peter Sarsgaard!!)
we watch riveted, forgetting for a while
the years that passed forgetting
to worry about the year that begins
just sitting here watching
a very good story unfold.
We watched an excellent performance by Chrissie Hynde, now unbelievably 70 years old (How can that even be trye?!), and no less beautiful. Dylan, Kinks, Pretenders, some new things. Just Right. Abd now it is 2022.
I watched it too! Really disturbing in some areas, and very slowly paced. Would love to share more thoughts with you.
