Dear FRIENDS,
I love National Put a Poem in Your Pocket Day.
Here’s the poem I’ve been handing out.
From wonderful Lucille Clifton.
“won't you celebrate with me
what i have shaped into
a kind of life? i had no model.
born in babylon
both nonwhite and woman
what did i see to be except myself?
i made it up
here on this bridge between
starshine and clay,
my one hand holding tight
my other hand; come celebrate
with me that everyday
something has tried to kill me
and has failed.”
― Lucille Clifton
The city of Charlottesville celebrates every year.
I love your poems (even when they're not yours), and will usually save them til the end of the day as a little treat for myself
So I see that National Put a Poem in Your Pocket Day is supposed to be celebrated every year on April 29th. And this year it was celebrated on April 18th. Go figure. Can you write a poem about that?
