Nail salons are everywhere
and if the workers are paid
fairly they can be a near perfect
experience. Just like with
beauty salons (Sherlock Combs et al)
I’ve been collecting Nail Salon
names, am a frequent frequenter
in the tradition of my grandmother
who had Revlon’s Cherries in the Snow
a good name too what could that
possibly mean my grandmother not
interested in exploring those possibilities
my grandmother had Cherries in the Snow
painted on her nails every single Friday.
Today I will go to Meet Me Nails not as good
a name as Get Nailed or Get Polished, but I love
my manicurist there she says she’s Nancy
won’t tell me her born name when she arrived
from China to Queens she said she wanted to be Nancy
a few weeks ago Nancy gave me a two hour
pedicure including an excellent foot massage today
Nancy who knows Rosh Hashanah is coming up
because she works on the Upper West Side said
there are some good colors for this New Year and I
looking for good omens wherever I can find them
will take her advice.
Get that polish, kid!
My favorite Rosh Hashanah color is Trader Joe's cinnamon babka, a wonderful autumn-y brown :)
