Dear Readers of My Poems,
Thank you for being here with me.
Some of you for years. Some of you new.
I’ve always had ambivalent feelings about Charging for Things.
As a bookdoctor, which I have been since high school
I’ve charged what my clients made per hour.
Equivalency fees.
(Only rich people, prosperous lawyers, objected.)
As a writer, I’ve often given out my work for free.
In supermarkets, in laundromats and libraries,
wherever I find readers.
Now though I am poised to start charging for poems,
using the Substack formula
on the assumption that they know what they’re doing.
Charging for poems is odd, but I thought I’d try.
Whether or not you subscribe
I’ll still love (most of) you.
Of course you will receive a free poem each week
even if you don’t subscribe.
WHATEVER YOU DO, I’m glad you’re with me.
Love,
Esther

ELLEN I FOUND OUT THAT I CAN COMP PEOPLE WHO CAN'T AFFORD TO SUBSCRIBE. HAPPY TO COMP YOU IF YOU LIKE. XXX
Hmm . . . no comments. Money can be a great silencer.
BTW, I'm curious if the gastroenterologist from Money 2 is into equivalency fees ;-)
