Michael the cab driver Pakistani he’s never
been there grew up on the Upper West Side.
His mother taught mathematics at Columbia University
and he too got his PhD in mathematics taught
at Hunter College for 28 years he loves all math
one day he had a massive heart attack
in the classroom open heart surgery sometimes he
doesn’t feel so well. He lives on 93rd and West End Avenue
with his wife and both his children in their thirties now.
They went to Harvard and graduate school.
My daughter teaches Astrophysics at Harvard
Michael said. My son is an aeronautical engineer.
People ask why I drive a cab . I tell them
it’s for the people I meet. And their stories.
But maybe he drives to tell his own.
