Almost eleven
my poem is usually here by now but today
maybe because it’s beautiful
because I don’t remember my dreams
because I keep thinking about Israel and Palestine
and my friend Laura in assisted living
in Battle Creek Michigan in spite of everything
she still sounds just like Laura a person
everyone loves for good reason maybe because we sat
outside and ate dinner last night a block away
our neighbors came by and one of them said
he ordered a novel of mine online he didn’t know
I wrote novels and he actually liked it although
he doesn’t usually like novels maybe because today
is Shavuot the harvest festival when God
handed down the Torah at Mt. Sinai maybe because
in honor of Shavuot I listened to Mel Brooks once again.
sorry about your friend laura in Michigan. after your Steve stories, you seem to know enough Laura's for "laura stories". if need be ,I can introduce you to the two Laura's I know. one of which is seth's fiancé. her last name is shafferman. not jewish. just another name like Zimmerman which is often mistaken for jewish except in Lancaster, pa. usually spelled "zimmermaNN". one of my fave B&W films is "LAURA". when seth was about 14 yrs. old,he attended " buck's rock arts camp" in middletown, Connecticut. when he returned, he said he couldn't deal with the values and behaviors of the jewish girls. I suggested that all 14 year old girls probably share most of those characteristics. his response , "you'll see". as if we would ever care.-xx
Thanks for Mel. The perfect male companion for me is a cross between Mel Brooks and Adam Gopnik with a cameo appearance by Anand Giriharadis. Have a nice day
