I have always been interested
in Albert Einstein because he had
Incredible Ideas because Peter
looks a little like him because he was
an unusual person. Marion Anderson too.
This week I read a story that many people know
but I didn’t about how she was invited
to sing at Princeton in the thirties how Einstein
went backstage afterwards because she was
amazing and how he walked her to the Nassau Inn
where they refused her a room because
she was black. Einstein brought her
to his home and they became lifelong friends.
Maybe he played violin while she sang.
Fascinating. Have seen and read much about Marian Anderson but never heard this wonderful story. Thanks!
She had to deal with such disgusting bigotry. It reminded me of Eleanor Roosevelt, as first lady, wanting to take Jesse Owens out for lunch at the Plaza Hotel. He had just won gold metals at the 1936 Olympics. They wouldn't serve him. (They went to the Waldorf.)
