(I keep wanting to write a small book about
50 things I love in NYC. Maybe 41 things.
Some things I love. )
An acupuncture disciple for many years, I’ve
gone to many Chinese doctors, every single one
a story. Now I visit an American acupuncturist
diagnosed with serious cancer 25 years ago.
Then, she worked on 60 Minutes, healed
with good doctors and acupuncture.
She decided to learn about bodies
and acupuncture. In her modest apartment
on 85th Street, Lisa Orlando, dancer once,
dancer still, helping patients
feel better with needles, with grace,
with hibiscus drinks, Lisa Orlando knows
what healing means.
Esther, love this story. after spending a gazillion years with my head & neck bent forward over my drawing board, I relied on acupuncture for quite a few years. when I lived in bklyn, I discovered the Chinese school of acupuncture.. it was located in Brooklyn's chinatown in sunset park. the school's owner spoke very little English therefore various students translated. he used very long needles. on the back tip of the needles was a small piece of fragrant wood. a moment before he inserted the needle, he lit the wooden tip. the heat traveled down from the tip. as I felt the needle heating up, the scent of the wooden tip burning brought an extra sensory & pleasurable experience.. this was about twenty five years ago. I just checked to see if it is still in business unfortuunatlely, it is not.
Thank you for this wonderful poem, dear Esther - who heals with words.
