When I asked Len
homeless man on the corner
what he wanted
as a holiday gift this year
for Chanukah Christmas Kwanza
he said:
You didn’t do so well last year.
I couldn’t remember
his gifts. He did.
Gloves and ruggelach.
What was wrong
I asked. You should know
he said with assurance. No one
ever wants gloves for their gift.
The ruggelach were ok. I’ve had better.
What would you like now? I asked.
I’ll let you know Len said.
Give me a few days to ponder.
Is it ironic that being a gift-giver is so fraught?
Have to love the candid honesty!
