A few years ago
a man named Art wrote
saying he felt
news and poetry had no
relationship to one another.
In other words, Art said,
don’t tell us news in verse.
I usually don’t but somehow seeing
Laphonza Butler, former SEIU
president, head of Emily’s List
(I’ll hear her speak on Friday at their lunch)
appointed to fill in
for Diane Feinstein
seems like an exciting move
(strong women with politics and power
not Kevin McCarthy)
and although maybe poetry
and news are not a natural match
Laphonza Butler is absolutely
a good poem.
Wowsa! Thanks for Phrasing Praise for La-Phonza!
Ester, I totally agree that the news about the appointment of Laphonza Butler is good poetry indeed. Thank you.
