Last night we had a party

with Khanyi’s friends and some of ours

for one of my favorite people poems

Khanyisile Ndaba grandchild and teacher

for us of what it means to be young

and in this world still full of joy and hope

and love and good intentions and we drank

Sam’s mulberry vodka and ate

Noah and Chesray’s feast

with Elthea Ndaba who made things beautiful

and Ahava and Laia taught Louisa cartwheels

and we who sometimes wonder

what will happen to this world

felt grateful for the next generation

and their children too

grateful that we are here with them now.
