Is Christmas a Poemless Holiday?
on some days when there are celebrations that preclude
the possibility of poems, say Tisha B'av, Divali, and the middle
days of Simhat Torah, on some days when we are not
no matter what our religion or non-religion when we are not
required to poem, in fact we are given a subliminal message
that poems are not a good idea, on some days maybe
There Are No Poems, but Christmas, red holiday, and green,
with trees and packages and this year Chanukah too, Day Four,
but Christmas, when there are drinks and food and dim sum
and a friend's birthday and new robes and good champagne,
on Christmas, because it is Wednesday and sunny,
and because we will meet friends at 3,
on Christmas this year there are poems.
