I Tried to Write Down What I Could in Last Night's Dream
Maybe because we watched Mary Louise Parker act as
a writing teacher at the theater yesterday (we liked the play
and so did Dave who sat on my left and once represented
Laura Linney when she was making commercials. They've stayed
in touch) I dreamt about words and how
we keep pads and notebooks by our side and write down
random words stringing them into sentences, then paragraphs,
hoping they'll turn into stories. In my dream I had a beautiful
pad made of Nepali Rice paper cover a deep pink flecked with gold
sitting on the old nightstand right next to my bed and near the pad
sat three good pens black brown and red and all I really had to do
was figure out what words belonged right there.
