I Didn't Write a Poem Today (COVID)
Because Bhanu wrote an email about her mother's
Punjabi sitcoms and because her mother has dementia now
and because Breena and I talked about her new book
and why I don't like the word utilize she doesn't
much like it either and because Oded's new manuscript
about Iraqi Cooking arrived this morning too and he called
to see if I got it and the Iraqi cookies inside the package
and because I ate the cookies made with honey and my hands
are sticky because I didn't wash all the honey off and then I went
outside to the farmer's market early so that I could go to
She Wolf Bakery before the line was too long but the line
was already too long and because we get the New York Times
delivered on Sunday and I have to read some of it before
the day goes away and because the baker at the farmer's
market had Pasquelina today and so I ate his Pasquelina
and because it's a warm day and Ruth from the flea market
which isn't inside the school yard because of COVID it's just
along the fence came over to use the bathroom and because
some days not too many but some days I just don't write a poem.
