Dinner with good friends
at Gazala’s Druze restaurant.
In 2007 the day she opened
very small space on 9th Avenue
and 48th Street I was Gazala’s
first customer. One lunchtime
I watched her making bread.
Gazala came to sit with me.
What made you walk in she asked.
Many years ago I went to a delicious
place outside of Haifa
in a Druze village. I still remember
that meal, I replied.
That’s my family’s restaurant
Gazala said. Now, I eat
there whenever I can.
This is where a friend who lives on the UWS and I hadn't seen in decades took me when we finally reconnected last spring! Wonderful place. He and his wife are regulars there and I understand why. Can't wait to return.
Good recommendation!
