Floods, and Love
Frightening floods and we
were at the beach in New Jersey
and Grace at the front desk said
Don’t Go Home she thought we would be
caught in traffic. Grace googled for More Information
frightening pictures on the internet
and where we were, entirely by chance,
at the beach in New Jersey, sun was bright.
Hard to imagine what happened in other places
which somehow seems like the whole story.
So often we try to figure out how to help
and how to keep living our life. We did drive home
cars left on the side of the road, stranded,
but we did not have traffic. Sun kept shining
as though it was an ordinary day and we
listened to Neil Young in-between news reports
100 people rescued in Mamaroneck, the mayor said.
We made it in time for my Cairo Public Library
writing class where we did a writing exercise about
Why We Love the Library for the difficult town budget meeting
next week and no one mentioned floods or weather. Just
library praise and Reba, love oriented, wrote a PS
to her library piece saying she hopes, one day, to
get married there, maybe to the 91 year old Minister contender
who is not yet ready to commit.
