Dinner in Long Island City

last night

Last night we met friends

at La Tournesol

perfect Long Island City

French restaurant easy to reach

on the train. We’d

gone there many times

before the pandemic but

in the blur of the last few years

(what we remember is still indistinct)

we haven’t entirely ventured forth.

Last night made us believe

the world was more full

of possibilities than it seemed

listening to so much difficult news.

We sat in a charming French restaurant

with two friends who love to talk:

French martinis, duck pate.

The world is more than what we know.

We can ride the subway

and go somewhere else.

Surprising ordinary perfect place.

One we knew well before.
