Lunch with my cousin Margie’s husband Alan
(Margie died three years ago) and their daughter Daniella
on Chapel Street in New Haven next door
to the Atticus Bookstore (what a bookstore) to catch
up and hear Alan’s words of advice. He will be 95
this July I have known him all his life his first two wives
not as successful as cousin Margie. Life is all
the stories of life. Alan still handsome at almost 95
he wore a navy blue velvet jacket to lunch his advice
was don’t stop working ever. He’s still a dentist at almost 95.
Margie’s first husband Tom Strong came by too
Strong/Cohen graphic design they do all the Yale graphics
Tom came to say hello I haven’t seen him in many years
Margie had two good husbands and I told him about how
in 1977 when he married Margie at the Oakland Jewish Country Club
I was assigned to sit next to Tom’s mother
from New Hampshire a librarian at Dartmouth. The family
decided I should talk to her about books. Tom’s mother
stern and literate was happy to discuss her favorite books
but after a while she said: What about hiking?
Do you hike she asked. No I said.
Well said Tom’s mother books aren’t everything.
Tom’s mother (correction)
Great story, love the advice and velvet jacket, too. His Mom quite a gal. I know the Atticus bookstore.
