Thirty five years ago I bought
four dining room chairs from a woman
who lived next door
to Laura Nyro on West 79th Street.
I paid forty dollars for the chairs.
The owner was moving
to Jamaica for love. (I never
found out what happened.) She’d
bought the four chairs for twenty
dollars from her neighbor who’d moved
to California. She said inflation caused
a twenty dollar increase in price.
The chairs are caned
and caning does not last forever.
I should probably give the chairs away
get new chairs by now
but I like them so I called
Veteran Chair Caning they picked
them up at 7 am a few days ago
delivered them this morning
7 am and one of the men said
Here are your old chairs.
Today you can sit on them again.
Would you like to try them
I asked. It’s too early
to sit down he said.
It's never too early to sit down. :)
