My mother went every single Friday
afternoon all her life to the beauty parlor
now it’s called the hair salon and Claudine would
set her hair with curlers, comb it out and my
mother would treat her hair as though it were
a helmet to be protected for the rest of the week
wrapping the helmet in toilet paper every night
battening down the side curls with tape
using silver clips to keep it all in place. The idea
being that the entire helmet would not disassemble.
It usually stayed put until Friday.
I have always loved beauty parlors now they are
hair salons the language has changed and so has hair
I especially like small town shops and today I am going
to a place I’ve never been before
many have good names I have a whole notebook
of hair salon names in case I ever need them
Julius Scissors and Sherlock Combs
Hair Today Dye Tomorrow. Elizabeth told me
about a Vibrational Colorist in Hudson who reads your chart
and makes decisions I filled out the form left her a message
maybe the vibrational colorist rejected me for my chart
she never called back so today I will go to Eclips
a good enough name in Greenville, New York
and I’ll think about my mother
all those hair dresser Fridays talking
non-stop with Claudine.
My mom went every Friday too. 😊
I just love this line so much: "All those hairdresser fridays talking
non stop with claudine"
It's conversational, visual and beautiful!
