A poet called this morning
to ask if I could help organize her poems.
She called them batches of poems: a good title.
Then what would be the reason
she said why one poem goes
before another? I’ve always
liked that question, liked the idea
that there are reasons why we
do what we do with poems,
Should my poem
about my mother be before
my poem about my father? And then
what about my grandfather poem?
What about poems that have
nothing to do with relatives
or Biden all those poems that are
about Len the homeless man on the street
who has a certain gourmet inclination
despite his circumstances what about
the poems about the people in this building
the stranger on the street yesterday
who said when I was walking with Ahava
are you both bi-racial? We are she said.
Where does that poem go?
The poem about you and Ahava--best, goes first in my heart! Marlyn Klee
Where does it go? It goes straight to my heart.
