Dear Everyone,
I woke up this morning (in Tucson!!!) to find Steve Zeitlin’s fantastic review of All of Us for his CITYLORE blog about The Poetry of Everyday Life. It’s worth subscribing to the blog. We need as much poetry in our everyday life these days as we can get. CityLore has consistently provided poetry in many forms, including a fantastic show now about Black Dolls and their makers.
Reviews are funny. As we all know, tastes differ wildly (Maestro being one example. ) Still having someone say Good Things is the best possible scenario. I am grateful for Steve’s generous words.
Some of you have written me recently asking where to buy ALL OF US.
I like independent stores. Here’s a new shop in Catskill that carries my books:
https://www.nycitiot.com
Bookshop.org is a great place to shop too.
I’m happy to come to your book clubs and literary festivals and do a readings and writings with ALL OF US. My spring schedule of readings will be posted soon on my website: esthercohen.com.
Although I’ve been writing about Every Day for years, it’s usually with poems.
Today is a Blip. More Tucson tomorrow.
Love to everyone,
Esther
The Art of Everyday Life - Since 1985
Each morning when I open my email, I receive a poem from the marvelous Esther Cohen. Recently, she compiled some of those poems, and a collection of wonderful short stories in her new book All of Us: Stories and Poems Along Route 17. All of the poems are set in the mythical town of Middlefield in the Catskills. “This book actually started,” she writes, “in the canned vegetable aisle of Slater’s supermarket. Bud Slater, the owner, allowed her to teach her creative writing class in the vegetable aisle. “We all wrote about our lives.” This is what Esther does – she has collected stories from fast food workers, nail-parlor practitioners, nannies, home-care aides, and workers of every stripe for her many books, stories and poems. She is a true kindred spirit, a fellow traveller in the search for The Poetry of Everyday Life. She is a what might be called a Poetry of Everyday Lifer. If you don’t know her, you should. I know you’ll enjoy this review of her wonderful new book.
All of Us LOVE all of who you ARE dearest Esther. Thanks for being The Voice of us.
