The West Side RAG had an early
exclusive (though it’s in the New York Times today)
that Absolute Bagels many people’s
favorite bagel store (a heavily debated subject)
is CLOSING at 2788 Broadway
between 107 and 108. Like many
bagel shops, the store was owned by
a man named Sam Thongkrieng
new to New York. He fell in love with
bagels and they became his
life’s work. The realtor, Rafe Evans,
who rented the space said:
“It was a bombshell.”
“It was out of the blue.”
And then he said,
“There’s a ton of interest already
from bagel people.”
The store was closed
on Thursday morning with two
We Are Closed signs
on the front door.
“Closed for good,”
said an employee named Nick.

A very sad sad day in America. We must go on.
There are no vacuums. If "Absolute Bagels" are closing, well "Good Bagels" will open soon in my Tel Aviv neighborhood on Allenby Street. All who have felt the loss of the UWS bagel place are welcome to come here. As Laura Nyro wrote: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XCvwDjgKPoc
