When I was at 1199, I heard this story. And this week, someone posted the story again.
Entirely crazy, and true.
Around 1986, nurses at Columbia Greene hospital joined SEIU Local 200-D
and went on strike for a first contract, some of the very first RN's to organize in upstate
New York. The strike was bitter, and went on for over a year. No end in sight.
The hospital director said Never. He was a hated figure .
Every day he’d jog with his dog to Olana, Frederick Church’s spectacular home,
One day on top of the hill, he had a massive heart attack.
Police came, and an ambulance. The dog would not let anyone near his owner.
The dog was so rabidly protective, that the police finally shot and killed him.
By then the boss was dead. Then the strike was settled successfully.
Some of the nurses wore T shirts with an homage to the dog.
Olana is idyllic...but maybe not for him
Tragic AND made me laugh out loud!
